Saturday, 15th November 2003: Severe chili night at a buddy's place. The chili was really good, maybe a bit too good with a healthy (maybe a bit unhealthy?) dose of red kidney beans and hot enough to sterilize one's internal organs for a week.
So, got up next morning all excited for a morning flight in Simon's Tucano, and felt a funny feeling in my belly. Probably just a bit of indigestion I thought, considering the violent rumbling sounds emanating from down below.
Decided to take my aging video camera with me to get some footage for the web site :-) and spent the first 30 minutes of the flight gazing through the camera's eyepiece instead of using its fold out LCD screen to save battery power. Big mistake.
Nausea started to set in big time... (squeamish readers STOP HERE!) Firey belches, which I unsuccessfully attempted to stifle, did not make things any better, and I started hyperventilating with my face coated in sweat. I informed Simon, the pilot, about what was sure to happen soon, and he told me to grab a sick bag. I refused the bag because I thought I could hold it in, considering we were just about 1km away from landing on runway 14.
I thought to myself, I might as well film the landing ("I think I'll hold it in! I'll manage!") but just before touching down, the previous night's chili returned with a vengenace.
At least I managed not to spill any inside the plane, but how I did that is a little secret which only a few people know :-)
