This shows Peter my appointed instructor (wearing white cap) briefing me about the instruments,basic concept of launching and preparing for a launch. In case of an emergency during flight the instructor flips the glider on to its back opens the cockpit canopy and in an inverted position one realeses the harness and once clear of the plane pulls the ripcord and hopefully chute opens and every man for himself. Anyway, gliders are not powered with an engine, so in order to put them in the air a glider either has to be launched with a very long cable fitted to a motorised winch or else a cable is fitted to a powered aircraft in front, takes off and once in the air the glider pilot releases the attached line from the powered aircraft and gliding commences. |
